SIPS Video Tutorials
SIPS (Scientific Image Processing System) is a software package, focused on two areas: First, astronomical observation control and, second, scientific image processing. Together with the SIPS itself, we are now developing a tutorial video series designed to decrease the barrier of entry.

SIPS started many years ago as a simple tool to download and visualize images from the prototype CCD cameras. Since then, SIPS has evolved significantly. Today, we believe it truly earns the ‘Scientific’ part of its name. Still, the barrier of entry often grows with functionality and, therefore, we are introducing a new tutorial video series. New videos are being periodically added to the YouTube playlist

Part VII. Image calibration

Part VII. focuses on image calibration using Dark Frames and Flat Fields. First, we create master Dark Frames for both Flat Fields and raw data, then create master Flat Fields, and finally use those to calibrate the whole batch of photometric data. In the end, we use the Blink tool to probe the data from the whole night and, just for demonstration, stack the images. You can find the video here: https://youtu.be/rn_H1IYCquw

The first video provides a brief overview and serves only as a teaser for the videos to come. The next in line are installation including ini files and a general overview of the user GUI. Subscribe to our channel so you don't miss any new releases.
